Two significant Taiwanese manufacturers, Foxconn and Pegatron, have contributed significantly to Apple’s increased production output in India.
Apple plans to assemble $14 billion worth of iPhones in fiscal 2024, increasing production in India. Currently, 1 out of every 7 Apple flagship gadgets are built in India. In order to become less dependent on China, Apple wishes to expand its presence in India. According to the insiders, Apple greatly expanded its iPhone manufacturing in India in fiscal 2024, constructing a staggering $14 billion worth of iPhones. As per the report, which cites insiders with knowledge of the situation, Apple now produces 14% of its flagship products in India, or around 1 in 7 iPhones.
Two significant Taiwanese manufacturers, Foxconn and Pegatron, have contributed significantly to Apple’s increased production output in India. According to the sources, Foxconn assembled approximately 67% of the iPhones built in India, and Pegatron Corp contributed roughly 17%.
The Tata Group acquired Wistron Corp’s Karnataka facility last year, where the last iPhones made in India were manufactured.
As geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington intensify, Apple is looking to diversify its supply chain beyond China, which is why the tech giant is increasing iPhone manufacture in India. Apple is deliberately growing its production footprint to lessen dependency on a single site, even if China continues to be the world’s largest center for iPhone manufacturing. According to recent reports from news outlets, Pegtron is purportedly in advanced talks with the Tata Group to hand over ownership of its sole iPhone manufacturing facility, which is situated in Tamil Nadu close to Chennai. In addition, Pegatron is anticipated to join the Tata Group in a joint venture as it builds another plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
