Deeptech startup Torus Robotics has secured $470K in its seed round, with Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation (TNIFMC) taking the lead under the Tamil Nadu Emerging Sector Seed Fund (TNESSF). Additionally, Forge Innovation & Ventures, Coimbatore, and SINE (Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship) IIT Bombay also participated in the funding round.
The funds raised will be allocated towards accelerating Torus Robotics’ research and development efforts, facilitating the seamless transfer of their technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace, and supporting various other vital aspects of the business such as innovation and expansion. Established in 2019 by Vignesh M, Vibhakar Senthil, and Abbhi Vignesh K in Chennai, Torus Robotics is committed to mitigating the significant dependence on imported powertrain components for the electric vehicle (EV) market, particularly focusing on motors and controllers.
The startup asserts that its products are at least 50% lighter and more compact, up to 15% more efficient, and economically viable compared to traditional alternatives. Through the FLCTD program, supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the startup has effectively obtained funding for initiatives spanning the electric vehicle, industrial, and energy sectors.
Torus Robotics, India’s pioneering tech startup acknowledged by Startup India (DIPP 51485), specializes in Unmanned Ground Vehicles, Robotics, and Indigenous & Disruptive Powertrain technology catering to the Defence, Aviation, Automotive & Consumer sectors. It holds the distinction of being India’s premier and youngest defense startup to autonomously design, develop, and supply the nation’s largest fully electric Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV), featuring a 6 DOF Robotic arm. This UGV is engineered for detecting, identifying, and disposing of potentially life-threatening unidentified objects, serving the Indian Defence sector.
