Looking for a third straight victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is targeting Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh, where he served as an MP in 2014 and 2019. The BJP claims that PM Modi is not only hoping to win, but also hopes to do so by a record margin of more than 5 lakh votes.

Narendra Modi defeated AAP chieftain Arvind Kejriwal in 2014 with a margin of over 4 lakh votes, and he triumphed over Samajwadi Party candidate Shalini Yadav in 2019. Ajay Rai is the opposition INDIA alliance’s candidate for the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in 2024. In the previous Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Rai, the chairman of the Congress party in Uttar Pradesh, also ran against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Varanasi in 2019, PM Narendra Modi garnered an astounding 63 per cent of the vote. With the margin he is aiming for, would PM Modi be able to hold his position? Or will this be Ajay Rai’s third effort at stopping him?
